Story about Capoeira Ache Brasil in Calgary

What is Capoeira?

Created by slaves in the North East of Brazil about 400 years ago, Capoeira had to be practiced in secret lest its lethal potential be discovered by the slave masters. Today, two major styles of Capoeira have spread worldwide from Brazil — Angola and Regional. Regional, is known for its fluid acrobatic play, where martial technique and whirling movement dominate. Angola is characterized by slower movements, tricky play and dramatic poses.

Capoeira Aché Brasil Calgary

Capoeira Aché Brasil Calgary group was started over 10 years ago by a small group of very enthusiastic people with Mestre’s help and was the first Capoeira School in Calgary. The group participates in many local festivals and events and had been featured on radio and television programs.

I was wondering what I should bring and wear if I drop in. What are the age groups for beginners?

  15. Grandona 17 August 2010 at 9:21 pm permalink

Wear loose clothing, like you’d go to the gym or a yoga class. The ages vary in the Basics level class.
